ON-SITE MACHINING CASE STUDY
Resurfacing a 3-Meter Diagonal Motor Base
What seems impossible to many becomes reality with the right tools and vision. A recent customer, inspired by our shared success stories, took on a challenging job: restoring a massive rectangular motor mounting base with a diagonal length of 3 meters.
By leveraging our FI80E on-site flange facing machine, the team completed this oversized milling task in segments. They first machined half of the surface, then realigned the machine precisely to finish the remaining area. The final result? A surface flatness within 0.05 mm, exceeding industry expectations.
This case highlights the versatility and innovation of MT’s field machining equipment. With the right thinking and tools, on-site challenges become opportunities. If you're facing a similar project, contact us to find the most efficient solution.
PRODUCT INTRODUCTION
The FI80 On-Site Flange Facing Machine is a high-precision, internally mounted solution for field resurfacing of large-diameter flanges. Designed specifically for on-site machining, this portable machine restores damaged or corroded flange sealing faces—ranging from 26.34" to 80" (670–2032 mm)—without requiring disassembly or factory transfer.
Whether dealing with flat face (FF), raised face (RF), ring-type joint (RTJ), or special groove profiles, the FI80 ensures ASME-compliant finishes with minimal downtime. Its modular structure and lightweight components allow quick installation even in challenging environments such as power stations, offshore platforms, and remote petrochemical facilities.
MACHINE FEATURES
Extra-Large Diameter Capability
Internally mounts to machine flanges up to 80" diameter, ideal for pipelines, exchangers, and pressure vessels.
High-Rigidity Precision Cutting System
Equipped with NSK bearings, V-rail linear guides, and a 4-inch tool post travel, ensuring exceptional cutting accuracy and surface quality.
Fully Modular Design
Detachable components reduce weight for safer handling and allow quick on-site setup and alignment.
Six Continuous Feed Options
Automatic feed system produces smooth or spiral serrated finishes compliant with ASME B16.5 sealing standards.
360° Swivel Tool Post & Multi-Groove Capability
